A Short Guide to How the Virtual St Magnus Way website works.
The Virtual St Magnus Way has been set up for those who would like to experience the St Magnus Way atmosphere, views, weather, wildlife - but who cannot travel the Pilgrimage for reasons of distance, time, cost, cost or infirmity.
The Virtual St Magnus Way
The St Magnus Way is divided up into seven ‘Sections’ such as Evie to Birsay, Birsay to Dounby, etc.
Within each Section, there are a number of ‘Locations’ at significant points in the journey such as historic structures, spectacular views or significant features such as bridges over streams.
At each Location, there will be several ‘Resources’ such as videos of the journey, photographs, audio clips or written descriptions of features or historic events.
So to start your journey, either:
- Click on the ‘Route Sections’ option at the top of the page, click on Egilsay.
- Or scroll to the bottom of the home page and you can click on the ‘Egilsay’ option alongside the map.
You can now click on the ‘Start This Section’ and you will be taken to the Tingwall ferry port.
Below the Section title and main image, you will see several clickable links to the resources. Don’t forget to scroll down to see the full set. They are normally ordered with the videos at the top, then the 360 degree panoramas and photographs with the text and audio clips at the bottom.
When you are ready to move on to the next part of the journey, click on the ‘Next Location’ at the bottom right of the page.
So set aside some time, relax and start your journey.
